SUMMARY: Newsweek reported how Donald Trump’s attacks on the Affordable Care Act had the potential to drive up health care costs for everyday people. Trump continued to attack the so-called “individual mandate” and promised to repeal the entire Affordable Care Act, but it was clear that the actions his administration were taking could increase health care costs.

The nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation report predicted that the repeal of just this one aspect of the Affordable Care Act would increase the average premium by 6% and for some consumers as much as 16%. Additionally, by ordering the cost-sharing reduction subsidy payments the Trump administration was predicted to cause Americans to face significant additional rate increases.
